Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to request, under the Freedom of Information Act, a list of the hypothesised targets (and longitude/latitude or OS grid references of each) that were used in the 1980 Operation Square Leg home defence exercise and the estimated megatonnage of each target.

I have previously contacted the Home Office[1], the MoD[2] and, most recently, the National Archives[3], who replied:

"Unfortunately, we do not hold any records relating to Operation Square Leg (1980). As this was only a planning exercise, the Ministry of Defence may not necessarily have been the lead department. We suggest you contact Cabinet Office [...] who may have a record of this operation."

Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Owen Blacker

I blogged about this: http://owenblacker.livejournal.com/59574...

Apparently noone knows where we thought we were gonna be bombed. Frankly, I find this pretty incredible, but I guess that's as far as I'm gonna get through FOI requests…
