Onboard announcements
Dear TransPennine Trains Limited,
I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) to request the following information:
* All onboard and station announcements that Transpennine Trains Limited possesses, in the form of digital files.
I would like to receive the information in electronic format, preferably in a ZIP file containing the files.
I understand that you have 20 working days to respond to this request. If you do not comply with my request, I will take legal action against you.
I am also requesting the files because I believe that you are withholding them in order to protect your commercial interests. I believe that the files are not confidential and that you have no legitimate reason to withhold them.
If you do not comply with my request, I will take legal action against you. I will seek an order from the court requiring you to release the MP3s. I will also seek damages for your breach of the FOIA.
I urge you to comply with my request and to release the files to me. This will avoid the need for me to take legal action.
Yours faithfully,
Kai Alston

Dear Mr Alston
Your Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“FOIA”) Request
I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information Request regarding
Onboard and Station Announcements.
Duty to Deny or Confirm
TransPennine Trains Limited has considered your request and confirms that
it holds some of the information you have requested.
Communication
We do hold the audio files for the onboard announcements, however we do
not hold the audio files for station announcements. This is operated by a
third party and we don’t retain the data. We also don’t hold any older
files that may have been used at stations previously.
Given the volume of data involved in the on train announcement response,
it is necessary to upload the files individually to the WhatDoTheyKnow
site, which may take some time, but hopefully will be completed today.
If you are not content with this response, you have the right to ask for a
review. In the first instance you should contact me again to request
this. If you choose to exercise that right, and are not satisfied with
the outcome of the review, you have the right to complain to the
Information Commissioner by contacting:
The Information Commissioner’s Office,
Wycliffe House,
Water Lane,
Wilmslow,
Cheshire.
