Official Protection for Gilroy Scrape

Currently waiting for a response from Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council, they must respond promptly and normally no later than (details).

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

The site known as Gilroy Scrape was identified some time ago to meet the criteria for designation as a Site of Biological Importance (SBI – now called ‘Local Wildlife Site (LWS)’ in a report to the Council by the Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service, along with another site in the area known as the Langfields. In addition Natural England has said that “It looks likely that ‘Gilroy Scrape’ could meet the qualifying SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) criteria”.

In the circumstances has Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council taken any steps towards obtaining SBI/LWS or SSSI designation for the site? If not, why not?

Yours faithfully,
Peter Reisdorf

Dear Mr Reisdorf

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request which stated:-

Wirral Council can advise that there is a meeting scheduled with the Wirral Wildlife Partnership later this month to discuss the future approach to the Scrape and where the issue of designating an SBI will be discussed. The Council is happy to update you on the decision of this meeting once it has taken place.

Yours sincerely
