Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for writing to the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and
Immigration.

The inspectors do not swear an oath.

The post of Chief Inspector of the Borders and Immigration was created as
part of the [2]UK Borders Act of 2007 and is independent of the Home
Office. The Act requires the Chief Inspector to monitor and report on the
efficiency and effectiveness of border and immigration control.  However,
the Act directs the Chief Inspector not to investigate individual cases
although this does not prevent him from considering or drawing conclusions
about an individual case for the purpose of, or in the context of,
considering a general issue.

If your letter relates to borders and immigration functions delivered by
the Home Office, the Chief Inspector would like to keep your
correspondence on record for possible use in future inspections. In the
event of your correspondence being used, your personal information will be
kept confidential.

If your email deals with any of the issues outlined below, please contact
the Home Office directly.
