Freedom of Information Officer, St John's College, Cambridge

Dear Alice Johnson,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

You have asked for information on every applicant for Medicine at St
John’s College for 2021 entry: applicants may be received directly, be
diverted to us from other Colleges via the 'winter pool' or be considered
in August 2021 following the receipt of A Level results (through a UCAS
process called adjustment).  Consequently, we do not hold the information
for every applicant for this admissions round and the full information
won’t be held by the College until September 2021. In addition, to comply
with your precise request would require the processing of the personal
data of individual applicants for a purpose other than that for which it
was obtained and would therefore conflict with the Data Protection
Principles. However, we hope the following information will prove useful.

a) There were 92 direct applicants to St John's College for Medicine this
cycle for 2021 entry. Their BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) scores
ranged from:

* 2.7 to 8.8 for BMAT Section 1: Aptitude & Skills;
* 2.1 to 7.7 for BMAT Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications;
and
* 1.0A to 4.5A for BMAT Section 3: Writing Task (content and quality of
English).

b) Of the 92 direct applicants, 78 were invited to interview at St John's
College. Of those applicants who were invited to interview the BMAT
scores ranged from:

* 2.7 to 8.8 for BMAT Section 1: Aptitude & Skills;
* 3.3 to 7.7 for BMAT Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications;
and
* 1.0A to 4.5A for BMAT Section 3: Writing Task (content and quality of
English).

c) Interview scores ranged from:

* 3.0 to 9.5 for interview 1;
* 3.0 to 9.5 for interview 2;
* 3.0 to 10 for interview 3; and
* 3.0 to 10 for interview 4.

d) The overall interview score ranged from 7.0 to 37.0.
No offers have been made yet and pooling decisions are not yet finalised.

For clarity the apply year runs from applications opening in September to
confirmation decisions in August. For example, the 2021 apply year runs
from the opening of applications in September 2020 to confirmation in
August 2021 and includes applicants for standard entry in 2020 and
deferred entry in 2021.

If you are dissatisfied with my response you may seek an internal review
in writing setting out the grounds for review. It will be dealt with by a
College Officer. Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of the
review, you will have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner by
writing to him at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,
