No, really.

Your above Tweet is offensive and alarming; please accept this as an official complaint and a FoIR. I am also bringing this to the attention of the Welsh Language Commissioner and the Public Service Ombudsman for Wales. 24 hours after sending out the Tweet, 229 people had complained, yet the Tweet was still visible, still as offensive.

This shows that you have absolutely no concern regarding the feelings of 229 people who have voiced their opinion and a three quarters of a million others who speak Welsh and are offended by your Tweet.

It shows that the BBC is not neutral and is in fact very biased against the Welsh language and people.

1. What is the name of the person who sent out this Tweet?
2. Please supply full details of the person's work, department and address of office.
3. Did the person act alone, or was the Tweet discussed with others?
4. Is the ridicule and hatred shown in this Tweet towards Welsh speakers official policy of the BBC?
5. Your Tweet confirms, yet again, that the BBC is very biased against the Celtic Nations and languages. Do you monitor the neutrality / bias of your broadcasts, Tweets etc?
6. Are you aware of any other bodies which record, monitor and research your neutrality / bias against the Celtic Nations and languages?
7. The number of Twitter users who have "Followed"
@BBCWales and who have been subsequently "Blocked" by the BBC, so stopping the automatic display of updates on their Twitter news feed and preventing them from responding to or contacting the BBC via Twitter.

Annwyl British Broadcasting Corporation

1. You say:

'The information you have requested is excluded from the Act because it is held for the purposes
of ‘journalism, art or literature.’

I ask: Which one? Your Tweet was not journalism, art or literature; it was nothing less than taking the piss out of Welsh speakers.

2. You say:

'The limited application of the Act to public service broadcasters was to protect freedom of
expression and the rights of the media...'

I say: This is a misuse of the Act. The purpose of the Act was to protect freedom of expression, not the freedom to abuse.

The FoIR, therefore, stands. Please address my complaints, and respond to my questions.

3. You say: 'The BBC, as a media organisation, is under a duty to impart information and ideas on
all matters of public interest and the importance of this function has been recognised by the
European Court of Human Rights.'

I say: I agree. You are duty bound to disclose this information. Please do so. This matter is of public interest, as was shown by the number of Tweets and national newspaper articles in response to your unprofessional and irresponsible tweet.

4. You say: 'Maintaining our editorial independence is a crucial factor in enabling the media to fulfil this function. '

I say: can you confirm that your Tweet, therefore, was an editorial decision?

I would like your response before I take this to the Information Commissioner.

Dear Mr Owain,

Thank you for your message.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying, we know our
correspondents appreciate a quick response.

We were sorry to hear that you are unhappy with a tweet posted by BBC
Wales.

This was one tweet in a series supporting Lucie Jones in the Eurovision
Song Contest. The tweet was referring to a mistake made in French earlier
on in the evening. We appreciate that some felt the tweet disrespected the
Welsh language but can assure you that it was meant to be a light-hearted
reference to the earlier mistake, and nothing else.

However, we appreciate that you feel strongly regarding the matter and
have ensured your comments have been brought to the attention of the
appropriate senior BBC management.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us with your views.

Regards,

Peredur Jones
