Oath of Allegiance Breaches
Dear Ministry of Defence Police,
I understand that all of your personnel swear an oath of allegiance to the Crown; please can you tell me how many cases there have been of officers found in breach of their oath since 2004.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Warrin

Good morning
Further to your email below, please can you clarify what you mean by
breach of the oath.
Do you mean Officers found to have acted unlawfully? Or do you mean any
instances where Officers have breached the Standards of Professional
Behaviour? The MDP Professional Standards Department do not categorise
conduct under breach of oath. If there are specific allegations you would
like information on then please state what these are.
Thank you

Dear MDP-FOI-DP (MULTIUSER),
Thank you for your message. I am interested in any instances where it has been determined that any of your personnel who have sworn an allegiance to the crown - to defend the interests of the king and his successors etc, have failed in this particular obligation. I'm not familiar with the specific oath or attestation that you use and the PSNI, for instance, make no mention of any obligations towards the crown in theirs so it may be that this is not relevant in your case either?
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Warrin

Dear MDP-FOI-DP (MULTIUSER),
Thank you for your message which I understand implies that any obligations in your officers' oath to defend the interests of the king and his successors etc, have never been used in a disciplinary sense and are therefore largely just a protocol that, in practise, has no bearing on their day-to-day duties.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Warrin

Dear MDP-FOI-DP (MULTIUSER),
Thank you for your reply which implies that the oath/attestation is of an abstract nature and has limited relevance to the day to day duties of your staff whose standards of behaviour are judged against your Police Conduct Regulations.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Warrin
