Dear Ms Wilkinson,
Thank you for your enquiry, which has been forwarded to the appropriate
officers for a response. The usual timescale for a response is twenty
working days, that is by or on 28.07.16.
If for any reason the Council needs to extend this timescale you will be
notified in accordance with the relevant legislation.
Please note that in 2012 the County Council adopted a position in
principle that FoI and EIR requests to West Sussex County Council and the
Council's responses may be published on the Council's website in a
suitably anonymised form. This is in addition to the individual response
to the requestor, and in line with the Council's commitment to
transparency and open data.
Yours sincerely,
Helen Thompson

Dear Michele Wilkinson,
I refer to your request dated 30^th June which has been dealt with under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Your request was for:
‘the number of unauthorised encampments of gypsies and travellers dealt
with by WSCC in the years 2012/13, 13/14 and 14/15’.
We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
I confirm the Authority holds information relevant to the request.
The data we keep is per financial year (1/4-31/3)
12/13 85 This figure is only for matters dealt with on West Sussex land
or public highway. At this time each authority dealt with their own
matters and kept their own records.
13/14 96 This figure includes some on encampments on district & borough
land plus public highway & WSCC land but not private land. (Although we
undertook the majority of enforcement Adur & Worthing still dealt with
their own matters)
15/16 68 This includes details of all encampments on public land
throughout the county on any public land and those on private land
