Numbers of short term benefit advances made since 1 April 2013
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Please release the following data:
1. Number of awards of "short term benefit advances" made to claimants since 01/04/2013 to date (or for whatever period this data is available if not available to date). If possible this data would be appreciated broken down by benefit type.
2. Number of requests or considerations of short term benefit advances made (eg this would include requests by claimants which are refused as well as those granted plus own initiative consideration) in same period (eg "in the period X to Y then in Z cases the DWP decided on their own intiative to consider a short term benefit advance etc").
3. Number of crisis loans made as a result of benefit delay in the same period as used for the answers to the above questions but for the previous year (eg if you can provide data on short term benefit advances for April to May 2013 then provide the equivalent social fund data for April to May 2012).
Many thanks for your assistance as always.
Martin Williams
Yours faithfully,
Martin Williams

Dear Talbot Gina PROFESSIONAL SERVICES FLDM MCT,
Many thanks for this reply.
As you did not collect statistics for crisis loans made by reason of benefit delay in the first quarter of tax year beginning April 2012, would it be possible for you to send me numbers of crisis loans awarded for "alignment payments".
It does seem clear from the figures here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy... for 2011 which give the total cash volumes of the crisis loan budget used for alignment payments in that year that such figures were collected (unless you did not record numbers and only total cash volumes or did not record the same information in 2012).
Yours sincerely,
Martin Williams
