Dear Frances,

I have been advised by HR that they need clarification if they're going to be able to gather some information together. With regard to Part A how are you defining redundancy? Do you mean only staff who have received a form of severance payment from the University (statutory or otherwise) or anyone who's contract has ended, irrespective of whether they received a redundancy payment or not (for example staff on fixed term contracts of less than 2 years would fall into this category). Please note the 20 working days will begin from when you come back to us with clarification.

Regards.

Dear Paul,

Please collect information regarding both severance redundancies and the end of fixed term contracts and any other type of redundancy that HR can categorise as such. Please also clearly mark the distinctions of the different redundancies in the anonymised records.

Please also be advised that if known redundancies do not correspond with the data provided, a repeat request will be made.

Many thanks,

Frances Wilson

Dear Frances,

I write on behalf of the University of Leicester in response to your request, originally dated 24th April 2018 made under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Our response is as follows.

With regard to Part A, please refer to the enclosed spreadsheet. Please note, due to concerns around individuals being identifiable, even with names removed, we have grouped grades together where possible, and we are unable to go into specific detail with regard to the nature of each redundancy (end of fixed term contract etc.) These omissions have been made under Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act.

With regard to Part B we are refusing this aspect of the request under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act as it will exceed the appropriate limit to collate. Under Section 12 the appropriate limit is set at 18 hours work. This information is not centrally recorded, so they only way to produce this would be to undertake a manual process working on each staff members one at a time. We have determined that to undertake this would take considerable time, and certainly well in excess of the 18 hour limit. As such we find Section 12 to be fully engaged.

If you have any concerns or wish to complain or appeal about any aspect of this response then in the first instance please contact the University's Data Protection Officer (Mr Parmjit Gill: 0116 229 7946, [email address])

Please be aware that it is also your legal right under Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act, to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision whether a request for information made to the University has been dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Act. It should be noted that there is a requirement that there will be no undue delay in making the application and there is an expectation that the complainant will have exhausted the University's internal complaints procedure.

Complaints to the Information Commissioner should be addressed to:

FoI Compliance Team (Complaints)
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF

I hope you find this response helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries regarding the above.
