Dear Mr Levers
Re: Information request
Thank you for your request dated 11th November 2017 for information from NHS
Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) regarding blood donation milestones.
I am writing to advise you that we are able to provide you with the following
information in response to your request.
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a Special Health Authority. Its remit includes
the provision of a reliable, efficient supply of blood and associated services to the
NHS in England. It is also the organ donor organisation for the whole of the UK and
is responsible for matching and allocating donated organs.
If you require information from the Scottish, Welsh and Norther Irish blood servcies you will
need to contact them direct.
I would like to request the information regarding the number of whole blood
milestone donations (e.g 5th, 10th, 25th) reached by males and females in the
UK. I would also like this information organised into age brackets. (e.g 17-20,
21-24).
NHSBT maintains a live system so we are unable to provide you with data in the
format you have requested. We are however able to provide you with the number of
donors who were sent communications letting them know that they were getting an
award.
These letters are for both whole blood, platelet and combined donors.
