Number of submissions regarding changes to ward boundaries affecting Houston, Renfrewshire

The request was successful.

Dear Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland,

These FOI requests relate to the electoral ward boundary changes proposed under the 5th review, whereby the village of Houston, Renfrewshire will be split between two new electoral wards, with the Craigends area of Houston forming the new ward 11 along with Linwood whilst Houston Old Village and Crosslee will be included with Bishopton and Langbank in the new ward 12.
Could you please tell me
1. The legal basis under which this review was carried out, given that The Scottish Government has at 18th April 2012 by “Lgbcs_Direction_2012-2017” expressly directed the LGBC(S) “not to undertake a review of any local government area under the terms of section 14(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 during the period beginning on 1 April 2012 and ending on 31 March 2017.”

2a) the total number of submissions you received regarding the changes to electoral ward boundaries affecting Houston Renfrewshire under the 5th review
2b) The number of submissions that were in favour of the proposed changes
2c) The number of submissions opposed too the proposed changes

3. What was the consultation process that you carried out in Houston? i.e. in which newspaper(s) did you place the notice and on what date(s)?
In which local public buildings did you place written notice of the proposed changes? I see from your general information that these are normally posted in libraries, but Houston doesn't have a library. We have a mobile library service. There are two public buildings in Houston and these are the Carrick Centre and the Village Hall. No notice of the proposed changes was posted in either of these.

Yours faithfully,
John McEvoy
Chairman, Houston Community Council

I would like to thank the Local Government Boundaries Commission for their response. I have forwarded their reply to the elected and ex-officio members of Houston Community Council and have posted summaries of the response on the Houston Community Council Facebook page. In the event that we have to appeal the decision I will propose to the Community Council that we include the data included in the response to support such an appeal.
