Number of students who dropped out of PGCE teaching courses in 2017

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Education,

I am a freelance journalist looking into just how difficult PGCE and teacher training courses are proving to be for would-be teachers. As I'm sure you can appreciate, teaching is such a valued and respected profession, but as we all know, teachers are leaving the profession in droves. Therefore, I do think it is appropriate to explore just how serious this issue of PGCE dropouts could be.

Having spoken to students on different PGCE courses, I've been told that while the monetary incentives are definitely attractive, the actual amount of work they have to complete (lesson planning, time teaching on placement, coursework, essays, etc) is proving difficult to keep up with.

Therefore I would like to request the figures for the number of students who dropped out of PGCE courses in 2017, preferably I would like this information in electronic form if possible.

Yours faithfully,
Adam Hagan
