Dear Canal & River Trust,

For the avoidance of doubt, this is a request for information under the freedom of information act.

Please answer the following questions:

1.1 How many "section 8" did you issue in December 2020?
1.2 How many of those were issued to boaters without a home mooring?

2.1 How many "section 8" have you issued in the year 2020 to date, in total?
2.2 How many of those were issued to boaters without a home mooring?

3.1 How many "section 8" did you issue in the previous 5 years (2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015)?
Please give the numbers for each year, rather than a total for all 5 years.
3.2 How many of those were issued to boaters without a home mooring?
Again, please give numbers for each individual year.

Yours faithfully,

M. E.

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear Mr Egert,

Thank you for contacting the Canal & River Trust with your request for information. The Trust has treated your request as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We have reviewed your request the request as it stand with the current wording of the request we estimate would take us over 18 staff hours (calculated at £25 per hour in accordance with ICO guidance) to determine whether the information is held, locate that information, retrieve and send it in an appropriate format. This is because we do not record issued Sections 8's as one category we record all Issued items within this category. To establish the Issues section 8's this would involve us manually going into each event for the year and establish whether this was a section 8. Furthermore this would also include all events where a Section 8 has been issues and the issue has been resolved or where the event has not been resolved.

We do however hold information regarding the number of boats that have been removed from the waterways following a Section 8. Please could you confirm whether you would like us to provide this information to you?

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of this email and should be sent by email to [email address] or by post to Information Officer, Legal Department, Canal and River Trust, Aqua House, 20 Lionel Street, Birmingham, B3 1AQ. You are also able to contact the Information Commissioner by telephoning 0303 123 1113 although please note they would usually expect you to have gone through our internal review procedure before contacting them.

Kind Regards,
Hannah
