Dear Ms Jenkins,

Thank you for your email.

The lowest total standardised score that places are offered at CSSE schools is 303.00 for children who reside in the Southend priority area. However, a score of 303 is not, in itself, a guarantee of a place as the schools are oversubscribed. There is therefore no specific pass or fail, only cut off points for each individual CSSE school.
These can be viewed on our website csse.org.uk

We attach a breakdown of the number of pupils from each primary school within the borough of Southend, who sat the test in 2015, and the number who were offered a Grammar School place in March 2016.

The data for 2017 Entry and for 2018 Entry is still being collated and will be forwarded to you in due course.

Regards
CSSE Office

Enquiries,

Dear Ms Jenkins

You submitted a FOI request to the CSSE on 9^th March 2018 and were given
information by them as requested in your email below.

The information which was sent to you was reliant on data from Southend
LA.  It has come to our attention today that the data provided by Southend
LA is flawed and cannot be relied upon.  Please, therefore, do not use the
information provided to you by the CSSE and delete it from your records.

Southend LA has informed us that they do not have the ability to give
‘snapshot’ data for entry 2018 as there is still movement as candidates
reject or accept offers.  They have told us that the information for entry
2018 which they provided cannot reliably be provided until November 2018,
following the October census.  The information for entry 2016 and entry
2017 is currently being reviewed by Southend LA and will be provided to
you shortly.

Please accept our profound apologies for any inconvenience caused.  You
should understand this is solely a consequence of data management at
Southend LA, with whom you may wish to communicate directly.

Kind regards

Ms Margaret Jenkins

Dear Mr Bevan,

Thank you for your clarification about the data provided. If I refer back to the reply by the CSSE on 19th April which stated: "The lowest total standardised score that places are offered at CSSE schools is 303.00 for children who reside in the Southend priority area".

Would the data previously supplied be an accurate indication of how many pupils from each school took the 11+ and how many of that number achieved 303.00 and above. So the "pass" being defined by a standardised score of of 303.00+ rather than an actual offer of a Grammer school place.

Once again I thank you and your colleagues for looking into my enquiry.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Margaret Jenkins

Dear Ms Jenkins

I attach the corrected data which you requested. Please note this relates only to those pupils attending state primary schools in the Southend Borough.

We do not have access to their individual scores. We are only able to supply you with aggregated data on those who accepted a place at one of the four Borough grammar schools.

Kind regards

Robin M Bevan
