Dear Ministry of Justice,

I write to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requesting data pertaining to the number of defendants who received jail sentences from magistrates sitting at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

For each individual year 2018 to 2023 (inclusive), please would you be able to provide the following information:

• The number of defendants who appeared before magistrates at Colchester Magistrates' Court

• The number of defendants who appeared before magistrates at Colchester Magistrates' Court and were subsequently sentenced to jail terms of any length (please do not include suspended sentences)
