Number of people receiving 156 week sanctions

Matt Collins made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by Department for Work and Pensions.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I understand that it is possible, in the current JSA sanction regime, to have committed 3 (or more) ‘higher level’ offences, yet not receive a 156 week sanction.

Therefore, please can you provide me with the number of JSA claimants who have received a 156 week sanction in Britain since the sanction regime was changed in October 2012.

If possible within the cost limit, please provide a breakdown of the numbers for England, Scotland and Wales so that the number totals the total for Britain.

Yours faithfully,

Matt Collins

Dear DWP IGS FOI,

Thank you for your timely response to my FoI request – reference 2014-5399. I accept that for you to compile the information you outline in the response would be time-consuming and costly. However I fear that I did not phrase my initial request as accurately as I would have liked.

I would like to know the number of fixed-term 156 week sanctions that have been applied to JSA claimants (regardless of the claimant’s actions after receiving it or any other sanctions decisions applied to the claimant) in Great Britain since the sanction regime was changed in October 2012.

If possible within the cost limit, please provide a breakdown of the numbers for England, Scotland and Wales so that the numbers totals the total for Great Britain.

Yours sincerely

Matt Collins
