Dear Jasmin,
With reference to your FOI 12418 request:
“Could the following information please be made available:
The number of people employed or contracted by the council to provide
specialist educational support services for gypsy and traveller children
for the years 2008, 2009 , 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017,
2018.”
Our services within Oldham Council have been working to obtain the
information that you have requested, and I apologise for the delay in you
receiving this response.
An Education Officer was employed to provide specialist educational
support services for gypsy and traveller children by Oldham LA until 2008.
Responsibilities were transferred to our Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA)
team until 2011, but no staff were employed specifically to provide
specialist educational support services for gypsy and traveller children.
The EMA team was disbanded in 2011, when local authorities ceased to
receive EMAG funding to support GRT and EAL learners, and since then no
specialist staff have been employed.
Funding from central government has been fully devolved to schools since
2011, and schools are not required to account for the use of this funding.
Regards,
Tony Shepherd
