I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to receive information relating to the number of patients detained and the number of patients discharged under various sections of the Mental Health Act from January 2018 to September 2020.

Please can you provide the following information:

1. The number of people detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act from 2018 to date. Please provide a monthly breakdown of these figures for the years 2018 and 2019, and a weekly breakdown for 2020.

2. The number of people discharged under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act from 2018 to date. Please provide a monthly breakdown of these figures for the years 2018 and 2019, and a weekly breakdown for 2020.

3. The number of people detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act from 2018 to date. Please provide a monthly breakdown of these figures for the years 2018 and 2019, and a weekly breakdown for 2020.

4. The number of people discharged under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act from 2018 to date. Please provide a monthly breakdown of these figures for the years 2018 and 2019, and a weekly breakdown for 2020.

5. The number of people detained under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act each week from 2018 to date. Please provide a monthly breakdown of these figures for the years 2018 and 2019, and a weekly breakdown for 2020.

FOI20-168 Request regarding detentions & discharges under the Mental Health Act.
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request we are now investigating the nature of the search and the quantity of information requested. Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act it is expected to respond to requests in 20 working day.

Please be aware there are a number of exemptions within the Act which could stop the release of information. The information will be assessed for these exemptions prior to us releasing the information to you. We will advise you if we are unable to provide the information requested and will confirm the exemption used.

The Trust has reviewed the information which may be relevant to your
request for Information and found that the electronic information recorded
is not reliable therefore we are unable to run a report to retrieve the
information requested.  We would need to manually collated the data as we
do not report the information in this format.  The time taken to locate,
retrieve and extract the information requested exceeds the 18½ hours work
and the appropriate fees limit.

 

The Trust anticipates that to retrieve the information would take a
minimum of 210 hours.  Due to this the Trust is applying an exemption due
to the request exceeding the appropriate time/fees limit.
