The request was successful.

Dear South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, please could you inform me how many GP referrals, for children who already have a diagnosis of Autism, to be assessed for additional mental health issues have been declined by CAMHs over the last 12 months.

Dear Ms. Carter,

Further to your recent request made under the Freedom of Information Act
2000, please see detailed below the Trust’s response:

Please could you inform me how many GP referrals,  for children who
already have a diagnosis of Autism,  to be assessed for additional mental
health issues have been declined by CAMHs over the last 12 months.

In the past 12 months, a total of 2126 referrals have been received by
CAMHS which have been referred back or signposted to another service more
appropriate to their presentation and our systems do not record a
diagnosis for these individuals.

In order to determine whether a diagnosis of autism was mentioned in the
2126 referrals received, this would require a manual review of each of
them, which even at 5 minutes per referral, would take over 177 hours. The
provision of this information is therefore exempt under Section 12 of the
FOI act which states that this exemption will apply “where the cost of
compliance is estimated to exceed the appropriate limit”.  This is based
on a cost limit of £450 with a calculation of £25 per hour.

We would be grateful if you could take a minute to fill out our Freedom of
Information Customer Satisfaction Survey (attached) and let us know about
your experience.

Please contact me in the first instance if you have any queries or
questions regarding the Trust's response.  However, if you have any

Dear South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Number of GP referrals for Autistic children to be seen/assessed for mental health issues declined by CAMH service in the last 12 months'.

We have requested similar information from other services and have been provided with that information promptly. We feel that it would not take 177 man hours to recover this information as it should be stored digitally, or there should be paper records.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/n...

Yours faithfully,

Juila Carter

Dear FOI (RRE) SSSFT,

Following on from SSSFT declining to give a detailed breakdown of the information requested;

Number of GP referrals for Autistic children to be seen/assessed for mental health issues declined by CAMH service in the last 12 months.

You state our systems do not record a diagnosis for these individuals. However the electronic CYP Referral Screening Tool does state a diagnosis, and is stored on SSSFT system. I have a copy of CYP referral screening tool document that was completed in 2016, but sent to me on request in 2017.

Could we please have the details of cases declined to be seen by CAMHS where the child has a diagnosis of Autism that has been recorded using the CYP referral Screening Tool.

Yours sincerely,

Juila Carter
