Dear Durham University,

I am seeking information about the number of Freedom of Information requests submitted to Durham University relating to the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (“CEM”) before it was sold to Cambridge University in June 2019.

For the five years in which CEM provided 11+ tests to The Buckingham Grammar Schools (TBGS) 2013 – 2017 inclusive, please could you provide broken down by year:
1. The total number of Freedom of Information requests relating to CEM
2. Of those, how many related specifically to the TBGS contract.

If it is difficult to search that far back I would still very much appreciate a representative sample, for example those requests received in 2017.

Best wishes
James Coombs

ACCESS I., Durham University

Dear James Coombs

Thank you for your request for information from Durham University.
Colleagues have provided the information below in response to your
questions.

I am seeking information about the number of Freedom of Information
requests submitted to Durham University relating to the Centre for
Evaluation and Monitoring (“CEM”) before it was sold to Cambridge
University in June 2019.

For the five years in which CEM provided 11+ tests to The Buckingham
Grammar Schools (TBGS) 2013 – 2017 inclusive, please could you provide
broken down by year:

If it is difficult to search that far back I would still very much
appreciate a representative sample, for example those requests received in
2017.

1.             The total number of Freedom of Information requests
relating to CEM

There are no standard categorisations for the subject of FOI requests
received due to the wide nature of requests.  Due to the very specific
information you have requested, a manual search was required.  A search of
the 451 requests which were received in 2017 was initiated as it was
estimated that the time taken to locate, retrieve and extract the
requested information for five years would exceed the fees limit
associated with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Requests that have been identified which appear to meet you request are as
follows:-

Request containing the words:-

+--------------------------------------------+
|CEM |37 |
|---------------------------+----------------|
|Tests |3 |
|---------------------------+----------------|
|Grammar school |1 |
+--------------------------------------------+

2.             Of those, how many related specifically to the TBGS
contract.

None of the requests specifically refer to Buckingham Grammar Schools.

Requests that have been identified which appear to meet your request are
as follows:-

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|Hamilton Academy in High Wycombe |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Breakdown of results |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Buckinghamshire County Council transfer test |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Buckinghamshire Grammar schools |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Entry cohort in Buckinghamshire |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test |2 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|Buckinghamshire test |2 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|School cohort in Buckinghamshire |1 |
|-----------------------------------------------------+------------------|
|High Wycombe / Bucks schools |1 |

Dear ACCESS I.,
Thanks very much for your response to my information request. It's also very helpful that you have explained that this needed a manual search because it is not always clear to outsiders how the information you hold is organised.

best wishes
James Coombs
