Dear Nada

I write in response to your request for information dated 24.11.2017
concerning fires caused by white goods in residential buildings, including
all flats, homes, care homes and nurseries, between October 2017 and
January, 2009.

Your request for information has been dealt with under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and I can confirm that Avon Fire &
Rescue Service holds most of the information falling within the
description specified within your request.

Please find attached two spreadsheets of incident data where ignition
source are for various types of white goods. There were 2604 such
incidents for the period (first spreadsheet), however, as make/model is a
‘free text field’, we only hold some information and this information may
also vary depending on what could be identified at the scene.  There are
388 incidents that list text within the ‘Model-Maker’ free text field,
which we have supplied in a second spreadsheet.  Please note that this
information is subject to interpretation of the member of crew inputting
the incident data. The incident data that we publish will also provide
premises type.  We do not record outcome of fire, however, we do record
the number of fatalities, rescued and injured  (however, each person can
only be counted once so if someone is rescued only, that means they had no
injuries).  We do record some data regarding age of victim and injuries,
however, we are withholding this information under Section 40 ‘Personal
Information’ of the FOIA.

This data format mirrors our incident data that we already publish on the
website [1]https://www.avonfire.gov.uk/our-performa....

In order to assist, we also publish a document which explains the incident
data definitions, which can be downloaded via the following link

In addition to our published data, the government also publish fire
statistics
