Number of Finance Staff working in the University
Dear University of Glasgow,
Can you please tell me the following as at today's date:
1 The number of staff working in the university (head count)
2 The number of staff working in the university (full time equivalent)
3 The number of staff working in the finance department of the university (head count)
4 The number of staff working in the finance department of the university (full time equivalent)
5 The number of finance staff working in the university but outwith the finance department(head count)
6 The number of finance staff working in the university but outwith the finance department(full time equivalent)
In order to simplify matters I would ask that you calculate the answers to 5 and 6 using job titles ie include any member of staff who has the word "finance" or "financial" or "accounts" or "accounting" in their job title.
Yours faithfully,
Lorna Stevens

Shouldn't this be looked at before cutting teachers and researchers?
Almost three per cent of the University's full time equivalent staff work in financial administration. Shouldn't this be cut before teachers and researchers are cut?
The three per cent is probably an under-estimate as there are people called "Resource Administrators" and suchlike whose main job is financial administration.
As well as a Finance Dept with 79 people we have mini finance departments in our colleges, faculties, departments and centres with nearly as many people again.
If caley uni don't need this second finance dept why do we? Can't someone on the Senate or Court raise this. Shouldn't this be looked at before cutting courses which are clearly highly valued in the real world?
