Number of checks that revealed cautions and/or convictions for benefit fraud

The request was successful.

Christopher Stacey LL.B, LL.M

Dear Disclosure and Barring Service,

For each of the financial years since 2012, broken down by the level of check*, I would like to know the number of checks per year that have revealed just cautions, just convictions and both cautions/convictions for benefit fraud, broken down by gender and if possible, categorised by how old the most recent caution/conviction is.

1. Most recent caution/conviction in the last 2 Years
2. Most recent caution/conviction over 2 Years ago but less than or equal to 5 years
3. Most recent caution/conviction over 5 Years ago but less than or equal to 10 years
4. Most recent caution/conviction over 10 Years ago but less than or equal to 15 years
5. Most recent caution/conviction over 15 Years ago but less than or equal to 20 years
6. Most recent caution/conviction over 20 Years ago but less than or equal to 25 years
7. Most recent caution/conviction over 25 Years ago but less than or equal to 30 years
8. Most recent caution/conviction over 30 Years ago

The term ‘benefit fraud’ should be interpreted in line with the Sentencing Council’s definition (available at https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/off...) which includes offences under common laud (conspiracy to defraud), Fraud Act 2006 (s.1), Social Security Administration Act 1992 (s.111A), Social Security Administration Act 1992 (s.112), Tax Credits Act 2002 (s.35) and Theft Act 1968 (s.17)

* For the purposes of this request, “broken down by the level of check” means broken down by basic, standard, enhanced, enhanced plus childrens’ barred list, enhanced plus adults’ barred list and enhanced plus both barred lists. If it is not possible to provide the ‘enhanced’ level figures in this way, group where necessary.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Stacey
