Information Management, Norfolk County Council

Dear Mr Cowan
Freedom of Information Request ICM8089- Response

I refer to your request for information dated 01 February 2016.  In
accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I
have now processed your request.

You Asked

How many 16-18 year olds are there in Norfolk who are currently not in
Education, Employment or Training ?

How many actions have been taken against Parents of young people who fall
into this grouping ?

Our Response

The number of 16-18 year old young people not in education, employment or
training is 1,012 (Jan 31^st 2016). This works out as 4.2% of the 16-18
year olds within Norfolk; this figure (4.2%) being equal to the figure
nationwide. We do not take action against the parents of young people who
are not in education, employment or training. The requirement to
participate in learning until the age of 18  is on the young person and
not the parent. There is no sanction against a young person who  is not
participating. The local authority has a duty to identify young people who
are not participating and report to the Department of Education.  Young
people not participating will be offered support from an appropriate
Children’s Service professional.
