Dear Mr Kumar

Thank you for your email dated 1 March 2017, in which you request
information about medical and dental doctors.

In response to your request I attach for you information about doctors
that hold specialist registration in ‘Oral and Maxilla-Facial Surgery’.
This information is correct as at 21 March 2017.

In the attached document, you will find three separate tables. The first
table is the overall number of doctors that hold specialist registration
in ‘Oral and Maxilla-Facial Surgery’, split by those that are registered
and those that are registered and licensed.

The second table breaks down these overall figures and provides their
ethnicity, and the third table provides nationality data. Please note
nationality data is only a reflection of what nationality a doctor
provides us when they join the register and is not subsequently updated;
we would not be aware if a doctor has an entitlement to a different
nationality than the one declared which he or she has not yet claimed.
Also we only have partial data on those who joined before 2004.

Junior doctors will not hold specialist registration and as such are not
included in the attached tables.

I hope the attached tables are useful.

If you have any queries, or need anything further, please contact me on
the details below.

Kind regards

Louise

Dear Louise Gormley (0161 923 6311),

Thanks for your FOI response.

I find that you have sent me the list of registered practitioners only for one particular speciality i.e oral & maxillofacial.
The request i sent for was for the ethnic breakdown of the total no. of doctors registered & registered with license to practice . This will include all specialities, junior doctors & even GPs.

I would appreciate if you can provide the above information accordingly.

Yours sincerely,

Vinay Kumar

Dear Mr Kumar

Thank you for your email dated 28 March 2017, in which you request
statistical data relating to all doctors.

In response to your request please find attached the requested information
(this information is correct as at 9 April 2017). In the attached document
you will find a number of tables. The first table is the overall number of
doctors on the register, and  of these how many are registered and how
many are registered and hold a licence to practice.

Then the above statistics are broken down by ethnicity, in addition, we
have provided what proportion each ethnic group represents as a percentage
of the overall register dependant on category (ie whether they are
‘Registered’ or ‘Registered & Licensed’). The next table is then a
breakdown by nationality; again to include the percentage representation.
The final two tables are the number of consultants on the register and the
number of trainees on the register; again both of these contain a
percentage representation.

A few points to note; firstly, we are unable to provide the number of
dental doctors; you will have to contact the General Dental Council (GDC)
for those figures. Secondly, although we do collect data on doctors’
nationality when they join the register, this data is not subsequently
updated. We would also not be aware if a doctor has an entitlement to a
different nationality than the one declared which he or she has not yet
claimed. Furthermore, we only have partial nationality data on those who
joined before 2004. In addition, ethnicity is not a mandatory field.
Doctors with an ethnicity of ‘Not stated’ have stated that they do not
want to provide us with their ethnicity details. Doctors with an ethnicity
of ‘Unspecified’ are doctors who have not responded to the ethnicity
question. With respect to consultants, please note that consultants are
licensed specialists. In any case, holding specialist registration does
not indicate that a doctor is working as a specialist. A doctor is not
restricted to working in their registered speciality(s).

I hope the attached tables are useful.

please contact Julian Graves, Information Access Manager at
