Number & Details of KSI Incidents Involving Out-of-Service TfL Buses in 2014

The request was successful.

Dear Transport for London,

According to Bus Safety Data TfL makes available on its Website (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publicat...), TfL Buses were involved in 562 Collision incidents in 2014, where 199 Passengers, 183 pedestrians, 79 Third Party Drivers,55 Bus Drivers, 20 cyclists, 17 motorcyclists & 9 "others" of which 552 were injured & 10 were killed. Of these 562 Collision Incidents involving a TfL Bus, how many involved buses that were operating Out-Of-Service at the time of the incident. Kindly provide me with a spreadsheet showing all the KSI incidents involving Out-Of-Service Buses with columns showing Date, Route, Operator, Borough, Injury Result Description, Victims Sex, Victims Age, Incident Event Type, Victim Casualty Category.

Yours faithfully,

Tom Kearney

In order to make a proper comparison of the accident rates you need to ask also how much mileage is run in service and out of service. Numbers of accidents are pretty useless on their own.

Dear Mr Kearney

Our ref: FOI-0020-1516

Thank you for your email received on 7 April 2015 asking for information
about TfL buses.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that
we do hold the information you require.

TfL encourages full reporting of all safety incidents on the bus network
irrespective of severity and blame. These incidents are now published
quarterly on the Transport for London (TfL) website. Of the 562 collision
incidents which led to the victim being taken from the scene of the
incident to hospital, whether treatment was subsequently required or not,
none involved buses that were Out Of Service. For clarity, the data you
quote in your question is reported to us by contracted bus operators and
is not the official source of KSI data we use to denote serious injuries
and road deaths in London.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate
to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached
information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
