Dear Mr Sang

Thank you for your email dated 08 September 2016 in which you request information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You asked that we provide details in respect of the number and percentage of missing and lost, 1st class signed for items between January 2014 to August 2016 and sent from the M16 postcode area.

Following the flotation of Royal Mail Group on the London Stock Exchange in October 2013, it is no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Royal Mail Group was previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned by the government. Now that the government has sold some of its shares in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no longer obliged to respond to requests for information under the terms of the Act.

It may be helpful to know that Royal Mail does publish complaint information on its website www.royalmailgroup.com. The published information shows the number of complaints received by Royal Mail nationally and is broken down by category of complaint including ‘loss’. Complaint information is available in the 2015/16 Annual Consumer Complaint and Compensation Scheme report and in quarterly Quality of Service reports which can both be found via the following link: http://www.royalmailgroup.com/customers/...

Yours sincerely,

Marie Teasdale
