FOIA EIR DPA, Nottinghamshire County Council

Dear Mr Greener

Request for Information: Ref NCC-014280-14

Thank you for your request for information relating to Schools expenditure
on supply teachers and support staff.  I can now let you have the
following information in response to the questions you raised.

Schools pay their own invoices and submit a report to the Council on a
monthly basis summarising their expenditure by type for inclusion in the
authority's accounts, at no point do we gather info on who they have spent
that money with.

Once all these reports are received from schools each month, they are
uploaded into an accounting system; therefore we will not be able to
provide the information in the timescale set for your request. This is
because expenditure incurred by schools during July 2014 can’t be reported
to us until August but will not be complete in our accounts until 1^st
October as many school based staff are off over the summer and won’t
submit this information until September. We will be able to provide some
of the information you require in October. If that is helpful and you
still require the information then please submit a further FOI request in
October (quoting the reference number to this request, in case it is dealt
with by another member of this team).

Looking over your request, it is not clear as to what information you are
asking for as it is entitled "Agency Spend" yet the request itself asks
for info on "Supply Teachers" & "Support Staff" the 3 are very different
things:

Agency – any staff (teaching or non-teaching) provided by a company
external to the Council and paid for on invoices (we can get total spend
by school for invoices paid between September and July, but not the agency
providing  these members of staff and no split of the roles these people
undertook).

Supply Teachers - these are teachers employed by the Council in a pool
rather than by a specific school, but schools are charged for their use
(again we can get the total spend by school for the period Sept 13 – July
14 for this type of staff)

Support Staff – these are staff employed by schools directly in roles
other than teaching (for example all teaching assistants would fall into
this category), they could be on permanent or temporary contracts, but are
paid through the schools own payroll rather than on invoices (I can get
the total spend by school as per the others).

If you could clarify what information it is you require or if the
information I have referred to above will be of any use and I will collate
it together and respond to you shortly.

I hope this is helpful.

Yours sincerely
