Notification of road closure from Roads Service NI

The request was successful.

Dear Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company,

I would like to have any information Roads Service Northern Ireland sent to yourselves regarding the closure of the Lisburn Road from the A1 into Hillsborough from the 28th to the 31st of March 2011. Specifically I would like to know when and how Translink was first informed that the road would be closed, whether speculative or firm in nature.

Further to that I would also like to know about any discussions and decisions within Translink regarding informing customers of disruptions to services.

Yours faithfully,

SJ Ellis

Dear Mr./Ms. Ellis,

Further to my earlier brief acknowledgement, I am now in a position to respond more fully to your request for information under FOI.

On 24 March 2011 we received notification (as per the attached document 11-LB-460) from Roads Service Eastern Division. This was immediately communicated to our Service Delivery Manager and Inspectors in Lisburn Depot.

In turn, Lisburn staff contacted the relevant contractor on 25th March to clarify the diversion/disruption this road closure would involve.

Alternative routes were then arranged and necessary information e-mailed to the Translink Contact Centre, Ulsterbus' Customer Care Co-ordinator and all depots affected, namely Newry, Banbridge.

On 26th March a temporary bus stop was erected on the A1 Carriageway near the Hillsborough roundabout, and notices placed on all relevant bus stops, advising passengers to avail of the temporary bus stop on the carriageway.

Local Lisburn City Services on route 325G were only slightly affected, with all bus stops being serviced.

By way of additional information, we received notification of a further closure at the same location on Sunday 3 April 2011. A copy of this (11-LB-461) is attached, for information. Similar public transport arrangements were put in place as for the previous closure.

I trust the foregoing deals with the various queries which you raised.  If you are not satisfied with this reply you may complain to the Translink Commercial & Services Director, who has overall responsibility for Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues within the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company/Translink organisation. Correspondence should be addressed to: Translink, Chamber of Commerce House, 22 Great Victoria Street, Belfast BT2 7LX.

If we are then unable to resolve any complaint that you may have, you may refer the matter to the Information Commissioner who will make an independent judgement.  The address of the Information Commissioner is: Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AT.  The address of the Information Commissioner's Office for Northern Ireland is: 51 Adelaide Street, Belfast, BT2 8FE.

Yours sincerely,

Janice Davidson
