Nightingale hospital: Patient numbers and spend with consultants

The request was successful.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would like to receive information regarding spending and patient numbers for the Nightingale hospital that this health trust manages.

Specifically I would like to know:

1) How much was spent with consultancy firms (such as KPMG, Deloitte or any other consultancy firm) for work on the Nightingale hospital. Please break down the data by firm and spend, i.e. KMPG: £1million, Deloitte: £1million, etc
2) Please provide a brief description of the work these consultancy firms carried out on the Nightingale hospital.
3) Please provide patient numbers for the Nightingale hospital from its date of opening to October 2, 2020.
4) What is the current status of the Nightingale hospital? Is it still available for the health trust to use to treat patients, is it mothballed, has it been closed down, or another status?

If this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the Act you are required to advise and assist requesters. If any of this information is already in the public domain, please can you direct me to it, with page references and URLs if necessary.

I understand that you are required to respond to my request within the 20 working days after you receive this letter. I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request.

Yours faithfully,
Emma Youle

Dear Emma Youle,

Thank you for your request for information. The Trust's response is provided in the attached document. Please accept our apologies for the delay in providing our response, this has likely been due to urgent responses in relation to public health priorities (Covid-19).

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.

UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national and international population. It includes Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic. We also run a number of smaller satellite units, allowing people to be treated as close to home as possible. We see and treat more than 2.2 million people every year across our sites and our hospitals deliver more babies than anywhere else in Europe. We employ 20,000 staff and have an annual turnover of nearly £1.5 billion.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to request a review of our decision, you should email [email address] or write to the Information Governance Lead, Corporate Affairs, 3rd Floor, Nuffield House, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, B15 2GW

If you are not content with the outcome of your review, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by our Trust. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
