Dear E A Lee
Freedom of Information Act 2000
I refer to your request for information relating to the decision to establish an indefinite
ban on ‘puberty blockers’ in Northern Ireland, which we received on 15 January. You
asked for:
1. correspondence between you and the Commission on Human Medicines
regarding the puberty blockers ban;
2. correspondence between you and the Department of Health and Social Care
in London regarding the arrangements for conducting the consultation on the
puberty blocker ban.
I have interpreted your request as seeking correspondence between the First
Minister and deputy First Minister and officials in the Executive Office (TEO) with the
Commission on Human Medicines and the UK Government’s Department of Health
and Social Care. I have interpreted ‘puberty blocker ban’ as relating to the making of
the indefinite UK-wide order to prevent new patients aged under 18 from beginning to
take puberty blockers for the purposes of gender incongruence and/or gender
dysphoria, under the care of private prescribers.
Having completed its search for the information you have requested, TEO can
confirm that neither the First Minister and deputy First Minister nor TEO officials have
issued or received correspondence from either the Commission on Human Medicines
or the Department of Health and Social Care regarding the puberty blocker ban.
If you are unhappy with the level of service you have received in relation to our
handling of this request, you may ask for an internal review within two calendar
months of the date of this letter. You should contact –
