Dear Department of Health and Social Care,
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I am requesting information regarding the treatment of overseas visitors by the NHS in England and the associated costs and recoveries for the financial years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24. Specifically, please provide the following details:
1. The total number of overseas visitors (as defined by The National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations 2015) treated by the NHS in England in each of the financial years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24.
2. The total cost to the NHS of providing treatment to these overseas visitors for each of the specified financial years.
3. The total amount of charges invoiced to overseas visitors for treatment provided in each of the specified financial years.
4. The total amount of charges successfully collected from overseas visitors for each of the specified financial years.
5. The number of cases, if any, where charges were written off or deemed unrecoverable in each of the specified financial years, along with the total value of these unrecovered charges.
6. Any reports or summaries produced by the DHSC on the effectiveness of the NHS Cost Recovery Programme for the financial years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24, including but not limited to collection rates, challenges faced by NHS trusts, and any recommendations for improvement.
Please provide the data in a clear, tabulated format (e.g., Excel or PDF) if possible, with breakdowns by financial year. If certain data is unavailable or exempt under the Act, please specify the reasons and provide any available aggregated or anonymized data.
Thank you for your assistance.
Yours faithfully,
