Dear NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group,

I work for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), the leading national user-led charity supporting spinal cord injured people and their families. Being a user led organisation SIA understand the challenges of living with a spinal cord injury (SCI). We strive to support all people living with SCI to access the services and support they need to stay healthy and live full, fulfilling and active lives.

Part of my role is to assist the Head of Public Affairs with FoI requests, such as the one that follows. As a request under the Freedom of Information Act, please provide the following information about the provision of NHS Continuing Healthcare for adults by your Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG):

1. How many adults in your CCG currently receive NHS Continuing Healthcare?

2. How many adults in your CCG currently receive each of the following:
a) Fully funded NHS Continuing Healthcare packages of care?
b) Joint funded Local Authority / NHS Continuing Healthcare packages of care?
c) NHS funded nursing care?
d) “Care at Home” NHS Continuing Healthcare packages care?

3. What was the total NHS Continuing Healthcare budget for adults in your CCG in the year 2017-18?

4. What was the actual amount spent on NHS Continuing Healthcare for adults by your CCG in the year 2017-18?

5. For each of the following categories, what was the actual amount spent by your CCG in the year 2017-18 for those adults in receipt of:
a) Fully funded NHS Continuing Healthcare packages of care?
b) Joint funded Local Authority / NHS Continuing Healthcare packages of care?
c) NHS funded nursing care?
d) “Care at Home” NHS Continuing Healthcare packages of care?

the implementation of the revised National Framework for NHS Continuing

·         We have ensured all of the Continuing Health Care Staff both
Administration and Clinical Staff have been given all of the revised
National Framework and the Revised Tools to read.

·         Key Managers have been attending NHSE Mandatory Masterclasses
and interactive workshops that NHSE have been leading on.

·         The National Framework and the associated documents have been a
standard agenda Item on Team meetings for both administrators and clinical
employees.

·         There has been a dedicated senior manager who has been
organising across all stakeholders a set of Training throughout the month
of September, rolling into October if required on the revision to the
National Framework incorporating an overview.

·         This training is being delivered by experienced CHC personal and
is using the standard set of slides that have been developed and
constructed by NHSE National Continuing Healthcare Team.

·         Senior CHC managers have been working closely with the national
team on the development of the changes and have been undertaking an
advisory role as the framework is rolled out.

·         All current CHC team members will undertake training alongside
stakeholder as above.

·         Small group mentoring sessions will be set up if applicable.
