Newsnight - Steven Messham

Chris Moffett made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

1. Could you please confirm that the Newsnight programme performed the simple task of a visual confirmation (photo/video)with Steven Messham of the identity of Lord McCalpine as one of the people who abused him.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Moffett

They have already admitted that they didn't, but they're unlikely to respond to your request.

They rarely respond if it's going to embarrass them.

Hi Peter. Do you have a link for that?

I did hear them admit to not running anything by McCalpine but not to a visual confirmation of McCalpine with Messham?

Cheers.

It's now mentioned in Ken MacQuarrie's report into the Newsnight balls up:

Thanks Peter. I'd still like the BBC to confirm this but it does appear that they are admitting to a very suspicious level of incompetence for such a supposedly esteemed broadcaster.
This case stinks of damage limitation/obfuscation of the establishment paedophilia that does go on. We're expected to believe that Messham didn't even look on the internet in the past decade or so to confirm McCalpine's identity and that the BBC didn't even do this basic of all basic checks, and then Messham says he's mistaken and the whole UK media(not just BBC)doesn't ask the simple questions i'm asking?! Not buying it.
