New Vision University UK Campus teaching MEDICINE theoretical componenets in the UK
Dear General Medical Council,
1. A UK agency, in collaboration with New Vision University (Georgia), established a UK campus in Derby, which is teaching the theoretical components to students from the UK online. Is such a campus in the UK recognised or accredited by the GMC when it's the Georgian university giving the qualification?
2. Do studies on a UK campus give any advantage for registering with the GMC upon graduation compared with studiees done in person in Georgia upon returning to the UK with a Georgian PMQ?
3. Does having done UK rotations instead of doing them in Georgia give any advantage to graduates upon returning to the UK with a Georgian PMQ?
Yours faithfully,
Jean Claude (UK student)

Dear Jean Claude
I write further to previous correspondance with a response under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Before responding I should explain that asking Freedom of Information
questions (which is what What do they know is for) is an exceptionally
poor way to obtain this kind of information since we can only provide
already recorded information. If it is not recorded we will not generate
new information for you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. If the
question is open ended and/or general there will almost always be other
kinds of problem in providing a helpful Freedom of Information compliant
response as well.
In relation to question one we have recorded information which states that
the campus awards Georgian PMQ's. The GMC does not accredit foreign PMQ's.
PMQ's from New Vision University are on our 'may accept’ [1]list. We
assess qualifications on a case by case basis against our current criteria
at the time of application. Please note that the criteria we use to define
an acceptable overseas qualification may change.
In relation to the other two questions, I have entered them verbatim into
our storage system and other than your request there were no returns. It
is not a system like Alexa which can answer specific questions, so this is
unsurprising given that this is what they were, which it appears have not
been asked of us before. We therefore hold no information in the scope of
your request in relation to them.
We will always respond in line with our legal obligations to FOIA
requests. However to get more helpful responses, you may wish to consider
making further enquiries to our contact centre or another department via
email to [2][email address]. They may be able to generate information
which, as explained, we don’t have to under FOIA.
If you have any comments on how I have handled your request please email
[3][GMC request email].

Kind Regards
Matt
