New Vision University Graduates
Dear General Medical Council,
I found contradicting information in your FOI responses. Could you please clarify:
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/f...
and
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...
1. Can you please explain why the information in the first response says no one from NVU has been accepted by GMC, and in the second response, you say 17 people have applied and are approved for the PLAB?
2. Does sitting for the PLAB mean that those graduates' diplomas were assesed and approved?
3. Now that the university is on the do not accept list, have you reviewed the qualifications of those graduates who are currently sitting the PLAB and what happened with them?
Yours faithfully,
Omar Mullah

Dear Omar Mullah
Thank you for your request dated 17 November, in which you request
information relating to New Vision university graduates.
Please find below responses to your requests:
Can you please explain why the information in the first response says no
one from NVU has been accepted by GMC, and in the second response, you say
17 people have applied and are approved for the PLAB?
I write to inform you that we believe this request is not a valid request
for information under section 8 of FOIA.
FOIA provides a right of access to recorded information which we hold.
This right of access does not extend to the right to request answers to
questions or to be provided with explanations.
I would however like to point out the data you refer to relates to two
different things, one relates to registration applications and the other
relates to PLAB 1 bookings.
Does sitting for the PLAB mean that those graduates' diplomas were
assessed and approved?
Now that the university is on the do not accept list, have you reviewed
the qualifications of those graduates who are currently sitting the PLAB
and what happened with them?
Sitting the PLAB exam is not an indication of acceptability, unless a
doctor has applied and been granted registration. Although doctors with
qualifications on the [1]May Be Accepted list should not book PLAB unless
their qualification has first been assessed, some may proceed to book
without reading the guidance first. Where these cases are identified, they
are contacted to advise them to submit documentation for an assessment,
and their bookings will be cancelled if a satisfactory conclusion is not
reached in good time before their exam.
I hope this is helpful.
Kind regards
Louise
