New Speed Limit Hammersmith Flyover

The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for London,

Post the re-opening of the Hammersmith Flyover, they appears to be a new 30mph speed limit in place when you enter the flyover from the West, travelling East, where previously I think it was 40mph.

Could you please explain:

1 – when the new limit was put in place
2 – confirm if the new 30mph limit is temporary or permanent
3 – why the new lower limit was put in place

Yours faithfully,

Matthew

Hello Matthew.

This has totally perplexed me too, and when I slow down to 30mph I have countless traffic flashing their lights because they believe it is a 40.

The other very confusing thing is that at the END of the flyover going west -> east there are 40mph signs and you hit no 30mph signs at all after this. I assume this an error too?

Dear Ms Rozmahelova,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Please could you clarify why this qualifies as "‘business as usual’ request and [hence] does not have to be answered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act"`

There appears to be some other people interested in this and I think this is of genuine interest to a wider audience, other than myself, so publishing a response here may be a reasonable approach.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Miliffe

Dear Mr Miliffe

Thank you for your email anout the Hammersmith Flyover.

I'm sorry that you have experienced delays on the flyover. As you know, on
A4 Talgarth Road, the flyover was changed to 30mph following the recent
emergency strengthening works. additional strengthening  work is
scheduled, and will be carried out in a way that ensures as much of the
flyover is open to traffic as possible. However, the speed limit changes
to 40mph at the western end of the flyover. The work is expeted to be
completed in early 2013.

I hope this information helps. Please contact me again if you need any
help in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Transport for London,

Thank you for your reply.

To clarify, you are saying that the 30mph speed limit on the A4 Hammersmith flyover is TEMPORARY while additional ongoing strengthening work is completed. When the work completes (estimated early 2013), the temporary 30mph will be lifted and the previous permanent 40mph limit reinstated.

Correct?

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Miliffe
