FOI Requests, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Dear John O'Sullivan,

FOI Reference: FOI2022/16419

Thank you for your email of 8th July 2022 in which you submitted a request for information.

From our initial assessment, it is clear that we will not be able to answer your request without further clarification.

Under section 1(3) of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, a public authority which receives an FOI request need not comply with it unless any further information reasonably required to locate the information is supplied.

We require further information from you in order to identify and locate the information you have asked for. In particular, it would be useful to know exactly what you are referring to when you ask for information on 'HHSC'.

We will be able to begin to process your request once you have supplied us with the further information required, but we are unable to do so until this clarification has been provided.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear FOI Requests, thank you for a reply. In the past when asked for Briefs for day one Ministers you responded thus"2) Can you supply the notes on Horizon provided to new ministers between the years 2000
to present?
Following a search of the Department’s records for all day one briefings for new ministers with
responsibility for postal affairs, we identified briefings mentioning Horizon and have enclosed
extracts of these relevant briefings."You supplied four of these for which I am grateful. What know prevents you doing the same for Paul Scully's replacement?

Yours sincerely,

john o'sullivan

Dear FOI Requests,Thank you.I refer of course to the Horizon Historic Shortfall Scheme, the vehicle that POL use to decide who they may have wronged and how much (or little)they should offer.Testimony from your Mr Chapman on July 13th stated you will be taking a more hands on approach to monitoring the scheme and Mr Chapman mentions for the first time compensation. This is a key point not covered in the HHSS but I felt a C should be include.POL may think returning money that people were forced to hand over that they had not taken in the first place might be reward enough but some compensation for Malicious Prosecution, affront to the public conscience and abuse of procedure is clearly indicated. As Mr Chapman puts it"However, whilst the responsibility for compensating victims of the Horizon scandal falls on POL itself, the Department has always recognised that it has an essential role to play in overseeing the process and to ensure that POL compensates affected subpostmasters fully and fairly and quickly and effectively as possible."Thanks John O'Sullivan

Yours sincerely,

john o'sullivan

Dear FOI Requests,Might I respectfully ask when you will reply to my message of 29th July concerning the First day briefing of Paul Scullys replacement Jane Hunt
