New national allowance for foster & kinship carers

The number of eligible kinship carers and foster carers registered with East Renfrewshire. 

 At end of 2023 we had the following: 

§  14 foster carers 

§  35 Kinship carers 

The rates paid to kinship carers and foster carers preceding the introduction of the new national allowance. 

Our rates were approved by East Renfrewshire IJB on 16 August 2023 prior to the
announcement and are detailed in our [1]report .  You will see from the report
that we pay above the allowance rate in some ages groups and slightly below in
others, however we will be taking an updated paper in the coming months to
ensure that all payments will be in line with national allowance.  It is
proposed that any payments higher than the allowance will remain as is.

Confirmation whether eligible individuals have been officially informed about the changes in the allowance, including the date when this information was communicated. 

No, we haven’t written to confirm this however we will be doing so in this in next 8 weeks 
 

Details on whether individuals have commenced receiving the new allowance rate and the date it started. 

Implementation is planned for March 2024 as we are also reviewing continuing care and
supported care rates which is beyond the remit of Scottish Government SRA  

Confirmation if backdated payments have been made, and if applicable, the dates these were issued. 

We are committed to the backdated payments from April 2023

for a review of how we have dealt with your enquiry. If you wish to
