Dear FOI Requests,Thank you for a reply.Can you say why the names of the SCC who approved the brief have been redacted,in the past this information was available?Can you say if Eleanor Brooks/Beth White + Rob Brightwell arestill are employed by the Civil Servce?Can you further say when a decision will be made by the PHSO on Alan Bates' wish for a formal investigation of maladministration ?Treat these as new requests if you need to

Thank you for your email dated 10 November.
I can confirm that Eleanor Brooks/Beth White and Rob Brightwell were the Senior Civil Servants (SCS) who cleared this briefing document, and that they remain the relevant Senior Civil Servants with responsibility for Post Office matters in BEIS. SCS names were redacted in error as personal data during the process of responding to this FOI. Where relevant, we will include names of Senior Civil Servants clearing documents in future FOI requests wherever possible.
It is the responsibility of the PSHO rather than BEIS to determine when a decision will be made relating to the matter of Alan Bates' request for a formal investigation of maladministration and, as such, BEIS is unable to comment on this process.

Dear FOI Requests,Thank you for a prompt reply.It would seem a Ist day minister brief is part factual,part Government Policy developement.Is that a fair assesment.We can see in 2012 Jo Swinson was told"“there has been a small trickle of cases referred to Ministers from or on behalf of former spms [Subpostmasters] who have had their contracts terminated by POL [the Post Office] for financial ‘discrepancies or shortages’ (falling within the range of theft, false accounting or negligence) who have claimed that there are systemic faults with Horizon which have caused the losses rather than theft or other financial malpractice by themselves or members of their staff/family.”Turning to Horizon, the document states:“Over its extensive period of operation the system has proved robust.”Who was the SSC who cleared this Brief and did these statements reflect fact or Government Policy in the making?When did BEIS position on Horizon robustness and malicious prosecution change?
