New fund for NHS Linacs
Dear NHS England,
You recently made an announcement on the "biggest upgrade to NHS cancer treatment in 15 years." See link - https://www.england.nhs.uk/cancer/2016/1...
Here it is stated that this is a 'new £130 million fund'. What is left unclear is whether this is new money for the NHS or whether it is redirection of existing funds.
Please can you provide figures for the annual budget for all years relevant to this fund and to sufficient granularity that it may be demonstrated exactly where this money has entered into budget streams?
For example, is there a regular annual budget for high cost items or infrastructure that this money has been taken from? Was the money taken from this year's budget alone or does it come from budget over the next few years or from the last few? Has more money been added in since the last announcement of the annual budgets?
If this money is being appropriated from an existing fund, please also provide information regarding what that fund is regularly used for.
It is heartening to see radiotherapy being given a boost of resources but it is disheartening to see press releases going out with only talk of 'new funds' but little talk of how this impacts overall funding.
Yours faithfully,
Robert Davidson
