The request was successful.

Dear Severn Trent Plc,
I have spoken to numerous residents in the local and wider area, and they are concerned with the new development of the sewage works in East Butterwick leading in to the River Trent.
I would like to get some information form Severn Trent to find out the purpose of the development.
Under the “Environmental Information Regulations 2004” (EIR). You are obliged to answer questions on the following subject matter, so I will stick these questions and hope you will advise accordingly.
• Air, water, soil, land, flora and fauna (including how these effect human beings)
• Information on emissions and discharges (e.g. noise, energy, radiation, waste materials)
• Human health and safety
• Cultural sites and built structures (as they may be affected by the environmental factors listed above)
• Plans and administrative measures that affect these matters

What is the nature of the development, the reason the site is extended form its current location to East Butterwick and the River Trent ?

Was there an environmental impact assessment completed on the area developed?, If so, what was the outcome?

Does Severn Trent intend to release water waste into the River Trent form this new development?

Does Severn Trent intend to Release Human waste into the River Trent?

Even if you, at this time do not intent to release human waste into the river Trent will you be allowed to if you believe you need to?

Have you investigated the environmental impact that any waste going into the River Trent will have on the local wildlife?
If so what was the outcome?

Have you investigated the environmental impact that any waste going into the River Trent will have on the local land, Flora and Fauna?
If so what where the outcomes?

Have you investigated the impact of on human health and safety, including mental health that any discharge may have?
If so what where the outcomes?

Can you also include any currently available public documents regarding this development.

I look forward to your reply

Yours faithfully,

Dan Hart

Dear Mr Hart,

Thank you for your Environmental Information Request.

For ease of reference, we have listed your questions and our responses
below, in order in which you have asked them.

What is the nature of the development, the reason the site is extended
form its current location to East Butterwick and the River Trent?
Severn Trent Water are carrying out works as part of a water framework
directive scheme to improve the water quality of bathing rivers within the
region. The treated effluent is currently discharged to the Bottesford
Beck at the treatment works.  The construction work that has commenced is
to lay a new pipeline to move the discharge location approximately two
miles downstream to just upstream of the Bottesford Beck outfall sluice to
the River Trent.

The purpose of the works is to reduce Phosphate concentrations in the
Bottesford Beck aligned with the  Water Industry National Environment
Programme as outlined by the Environment Agency.

Was there an environmental impact assessment completed on the area
developed?, If so, what was the outcome?

As with every Severn Trent project, the design considers impacts both to
customers and the environment and endeavours to mitigate the risks as far
as is reasonably practicable. The route has been designed to avoid any
sensitive areas and protected species (such as water voles, otters,
badgers, bats etc) Severn Trent also have a biodiversity enhancement
strategy, which means that, for every project of this type, a plan will be
agreed with local authorities to demonstrate an improvement post
completion.

Does Severn Trent intend to release water waste into the River Trent form
this new development?
The discharge into the River Trent will be treated final effluent that is
currently being discharged to the Bottesford Beck. As stated above the
project is not driven to meet the needs of development in Scunthorpe or
the surrounding area.

Does Severn Trent intend to Release Human waste into the River Trent?

The discharge into the River Trent will be treated final effluent that is
currently being discharged to the Bottesford Beck.

Even if you, at this time do not intent to release human waste into the
river Trent will you be allowed to if you believe you need to?

The discharge into the River Trent will be treated final effluent that is
currently being discharged to the Bottesford Beck.

Have you investigated the environmental impact that any waste going into
the River Trent will have on the local wildlife?

If so what was the outcome?

Severn Trent has engaged in a wide range of consultations to ensure that
there is no environmental detriment at either the Bottesford Brook or the
River Trent.

Have you investigated the environmental impact that any waste going into
the River Trent will have on the local land, Flora and Fauna?

If so what where the outcomes?

Yes, see above.

Have you investigated the impact of on human health and safety, including
mental health that any discharge may have?

If so what where the outcomes?

The project is driven by a Water Framework Directive to improve the
quality of the environment. We also try to reduce the impact to customers
as much as possible. We will endeavour to address any specific concerns if
they are brought to our attention.

Can you also include any currently available public documents regarding
this development.

As stated above. These works are not driven by development in the
Scunthorpe area, but the need to ensure that deliver improvements as
agreed with the Environment Agency.

We hope the above is useful.

Best wishes,
Severn Trent EIR Team
