New Computers in Ogwr Libraries

Avril Williams made this Freedom of Information request to Bridgend County Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Bridgend County Borough Council.

Dear Bridgend Council,

The fonts on the new computers in Ogwr libraries are MINISCULE in size and, according to the librarians, there is NO in-built system for increasing the size, (other than on Word),

Short eyesight is a FORM OF DISABILITY suffered by a lot of people, - although degree of shortsightedness varies between individual.

1. Why therefore did whoever selected the new computers, fail to consider the problems that these miniscule fonts would cause for users whose eyesight IS NOT AS GOOD AS THEIR OWN?

2. What does the Council intend doing the rectify the situation, - and when?

Note - The miniscule fonts have caused me problrms writing this FOI request.

Yours faithfully,

A Williams

Dear foi,

I DELIBERATELY placed my question on the FOI site, because -

1. I thought, clearly wrongly, that the Council would be more likely to take the matter seriously than if I contacted it directly.

2. There might be concern from any activists within the anti-discrimination against physically handicapped movement who read it.

If the Council had built a new public building without access for physically handicapped people there would be a huge outcry.

As stated, there are a lot of people for whom miniscule size fonts/print causes problems. (I am NOT referring to partially sighted people)

Yours sincerely,

Avril Williams
