New bus and cycle lanes on Oxford Road

The request was successful.

Dear Reading Borough Council,

Following the policy committee meeting of 18th May, can you please provide details of where the proposed new bus lanes will be placed along with the proposed cycle lane.

In addition, did the council consider the enforcement of no right turns along the Oxford Road either by cameras or bollards as this will increase safety and traffic flow.

Yours faithfully,

Raymond Lee

FOIeng_GenMail,

If you have contacted us with an FOI or Subject Access Request, please
note:

We have been assessing the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our ability
to continue to deliver our services in respect of  FOI requests and
Subject Access Requests, while at the same time protecting our colleagues.

We have been reviewing the developments and Government announcements on a
daily basis and have closely followed the advice issue by Public Health
England.

Our staff are working from home, flexibly, and we will endeavour to
continue to deal with your open enquiry however, there may be some
interruption to those making contact with us for the first time. This
means, during this time, we will log any new enquires received however we
may not be able to deal with it fully until the current crisis is over. If
you have already registered an FOI or SAR, with us, we may continue to
work on it and but please be aware our ability to progress cases may be
limited. This is because the Council is a front line response service and
considerable effort is being made to keep essential services running by
redeploy staff from other areas. In that context, we have to make
difficult decisions and it might take a bit longer to respond to your
enquiry.

We appreciate your support and understanding at this challenging time as
we endeavour to maintain essential services while protecting our staff and
customers.  We will update our website regularly to keep you informed.

Dear Mr Lee

Thank you for your recent email which is being dealt with under the
Freedom of Information Act.

We are closely following the advice issued by Government and Public Health
England.

We have temporarily suspended our service effective from Wednesday 25
March. We hope this service can be reinstated as soon as possible and will
update our website regularly to keep you informed.

This means, we will log your FOI request, but this will not be dealt with
until our services are resumed. This is because the Council is a front
line response service and considerable effort is being made to keep
essential services running by redeploy staff from other areas. In that
context, we have to make difficult decisions and it will take longer to
respond to your request.

We appreciate your support and understanding at this challenging time as
we endeavour to maintain essential services while protecting our staff and
customers.

Regards.

Beasley, Simon, Reading Borough Council

Dear Mr Lee

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST

Thank you for your recent request received in this office on 21^st May
2020. I apologise for the delay in responding to you but the Council has
had to prioritise its response to the Coronovirus to ensure the safety of
residents and, as a result, other services have been impacted.

You have requested the following information under the provisions of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000:

 1. Following the policy committee meeting of 18th May, can you please
provide details of where the proposed new bus lanes will be placed
along with the proposed cycle lane.

 2. In addition, did the council consider the enforcement of no right
turns along the Oxford Road either by cameras or bollards as this will
increase safety and traffic flow.

Our response is as follows:-

 1. Details of the Oxford Road corridor study including proposals for
additional bus lanes can be found on our website by clicking on the
following link:

[1]https://www.reading.gov.uk/article/11825...

Additional cycle lanes (along the Oxford Road) as part of our Active
Travel schemes package are also on our website and can been seen by
clicking on the following link: [2]https://www.reading.gov.uk/activetravel

 2. Enforcement of moving traffic offences such banned turns can only be
carried out by the police regardless of any use of cameras or physical
measures in place.  We have considered alterations to the junctions to
make it more difficult for drivers to turn against the banned
movements in the past.  The junctions are already designed to make a
turn against the ban as difficult as possible but the layout has to
support all types of vehicles including larger vehicles such as those
used for refuse collections, the emergency services etc.

If you are unhappy with this response to your request for information
under the Freedom of Information Act then you may ask for an internal
review. Please make a request in writing to Mr M Graham, Assistant
