New Border Signs to replace 'Cumbria'
Dear Westmorland and Furness Council,
Can you confirm that the new authority has replaced all "Cumbria" signs on all and every inbound road approaches to Westmorland & Furness?
Of course with "Cumbria" having no legitimacy to be on road signage and infrastructure since it's permanent abolition one would expect this to have occurred by now.
If any "Cumbria" border signs do still remain :
1. Why?
2. Confirm that they are on a programme of being completely taken permanently
down and replaced with the legal and correct Westmorland & Furness.
Additionally can you confirm that no part of your budget whatsoever is being spent on promoting the abolished "Cumbria" and that Westmorland and Furness and only Westmorland and Furness without wishful pairing of the old "Cumbria"is being promoted.
Understandably the vast majority of local feeling is (and was always) proud of Westmorland, the folk of Furness most proud of their county of Lancashire, and not forgetting the Yorkshire town of Sedbergh.
The abolition of the short lived 1974-1996 "Cumbria" has been cheered and long awaited and has at last occurred, despite what social media and the BBC insinuates to the contrary.
Feelings are strong on this important and relevant issue.
Yours faithfully,
Robert Toone
