Neighbourhood Policing Meeting

The request was partially successful.

Dear Leicestershire Constabulary,

At the Neighbourhood Policing Meeting held this week, the Chief Constable said that crime in Leicestershire was at a 22 year low. He also said that last year 21,000 people had been arrested.

My questions relate to what the meeting was told.

1. What year, 22 years ago, was the Chief Constable comparing present crime rates to?

2. What is the figure for total recorded crime in the year given in answer to Q1?

3. What is the figure for total recorded crime in the present year which the Chief Constable was using for his comparison?

4. How many crimes were detected for (a) the earlier year and (b) the present year?

5. How many persons were arrested in the year referred to at Q1?

6. Of the persons arrested in the year referred to at Q1, how many were charged and went to court?

7. Of the 21,000 persons arrested last year, how many were charged and went to court?

8. What was the establishment of the force for (a) police officers and (b) civilian support staff in the year referred to at Q1?

9. What was the establishment of the force for (a) police officers and (b) civilian support staff today?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Langton

Dear Data Protection,

Thank you for your partial response. I would have thought that the information relating to 1990 would be available to you from the Chief Constable's Annual Report of that year? Doesn't the Force keep copies of these documents?

I look forward to receiving a full response to my request in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Langton

Data Protection,

Dear Mr Langton

With regards to the 1990 crime information, I have spoken to the relevant
stakeholder within the force and understand that a copy of the Chief
Constables report for 1990 is not available.

With regards to the remainder of your request I can advise that the force
establishment in 2011 was as follows:

Police Officers:             2204.6

Police Staff:                 1322 (inc. PCSO’s)

With regards to the establishment figures for 1990, I have been advised
that due to the changes in the HR system which have been introduced since
1990, accurate information is not retrievable. I apologise for any
inconvenience that this may cause you.

Kind Regards

Steven Morris
