Subject: Freedom of Information Request – NEAS Review Appointment Process

Dear NHS England,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I request the following information regarding the appointment process for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) review, announced by Sajid Javid on 23 June 2022:

Any meeting minutes, notes, or internal briefings within NHS England, or between NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), discussing the appointment of the NEAS review leader, dated 1 May 2022 to 30 September 2022.

NHS England’s policies, procedures, or guidance documents in place as of June 2022 for appointing leaders of independent reviews, including any protocols for assessing conflicts of interest.

If this request risks exceeding the cost limit under Section 12 of the FOIA, please contact me to discuss refinement options before refusing, as per Section 16. Given the significant public interest in transparency regarding NEAS’s alleged failings and the impartiality of the review process, I request partial disclosure of non-exempt information if any exemptions apply.

This request is distinct from my previous FOI (FOI-2505-2226755) but relates to the same public interest concerns. Please provide a response within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,
Paul Calvert
