Our ref: FOI-0307-2021/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31
May 2020 asking for information about near misses for London buses.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that
we do hold the information you require.

Please find attached the requested near miss incidents involving London
Buses in the calendar year 2019.

We encourage operators to report near misses on the network as they
represent opportunities to learn from incidents. Metroline is one of the
most active operators in this area and continues to promote the importance
of this among its staff. We continue to work with all operators to ensure
these incidents are reported and consistently categorised, and that any
learnings can be applied across the entire bus network as part of the
drive to improve safety.

Wider statistical data on the bus network is published at
[1]https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publication....
The Mayor’s Transport Strategy sets out an ambitious goal of eliminating
deaths and serious injuries from London’s roads by 2041, and within that,
we have committed to eradicating deaths involving buses in the capital by
2030. Our Bus Safety Programme, established in 2016, continuously drives
major safety improvements across our network, involving work to
investigate and manage driver fatigue and the launch of our world-leading
Bus Safety Standard. This is a standard for all bus manufacturers setting
out innovative new safety features including an audible warning to alert
road users to the presence of buses. The first of the measures were
introduced on new buses last year, with the full set of measures expected
to be in place on all new buses by 2024.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
