Dear Mr Young
Further to my previous email, please find below our response to your first
two questions. Once again, I apologise for not being able to finalise
this response sooner.
1. Percentage of total tickets purchased online rather than through retail
outlets.
We do hold a breakdown of total ticket sales between retail and online
(rather than the number of tickets, or a breakdown by game). We only hold
this information for the current licence period which started in 2009.
Proportion of Online tickets
Year to Retail tickets
2013/2014 17.48%
2012/13 16.99%
2011/12 15.93%
2010/11 14.13%
2009/10 12.65%
The Commission does not hold this information prior to the start of the
most recent licence period (2009). It may be possible for the Commission
to calculate this from data that is held but this would be a complicated
and time consuming process. Having considered the ICO guidance (“Do I
have to create information to answer a request?” – Feb 2009) the
complexity of this would amount to the creation of new information that is
not already held and will therefore not be provided.
2. Percentage of total winning tickets purchased online rather than
through retail outlets.
We do not hold information that is readily available in terms of the
percentage of actual winning tickets purchased online. It would be
possible to create this but this would again be a complex and time
consuming process which would amount to the creation of new information.
